Life in a Baroque manor

Here at Laukko we live not surrounded by but with antiques. The crockery and bed linen are kept in the big dining room cupboards, as was the custom in Baroque times. We prepare our food on a sturdy Renaissance table and read our books in the deep recesses of a massive Biedermeier sofa.

The styles and moods vary from one part of the house to another. The top floor has light Neoclassical furniture and the middle floor, housing Laukko Historicum, is dominated by the Renaissance and stately Baroque.

The Laukko antiques collection, with its Flemish tapestries and Italian grotesques, is unmatched in Finland. Among the items collected by Juhani Lagerstam in the 1970s-90s are, in addition to rare items of furniture and wall hangings, Baroque pewter tableware and brass candlesticks.
