Royal portraits and modern masters

The Laukko art collection has masterpieces from different centuries. Among the characters in the portrait gallery are former owners of the estate the Kurcks, (alternatively spelt Kurki), Queen Christina and Duke Johan of Sweden.

Serving as a reminder of the early years of Finnish history painting is the masterpiece “Execution Night” by Robert Wilhelm Ekman in the Great Hall, and of the history of Laukko Antti Saarela’s “Klaus Kurki goes courting”.

Laukko’s history and landscapes have been inspiring artists from time immemorial. Many of the works were indeed designed specifically for the house. In the upper hall is Juho Rissanen’s “Laukko horses being led out to graze”. Gracing the main entrance are magnificent animal sculptures by Jussi Mäntynen.
